New service for seniors from Sainte-Julie
Vélo Duo, in conjunction with the “Un Vélo, Une Ville” program, has introduced three-wheeled scooter tours in the municipality of Sainte-Julie. This service is available free of charge to all seniors living in an establishment with its own three-wheeled scooter, which is the case for Résidences Soleil Manoir Sainte-Julie. Many residents have sung the praises of this new initiative, which allows them to safely explore the city. Kept in the residence’s indoor parking lot when not in use, the three-wheeled scooter also serves to offer tours to all citizens aged 65 years or more and living within a three-kilometre radius of Manoir Sainte-Julie. This unusual transportation service is offered at Résidences Soleil Manoir Sainte-Julie on Wednesdays (from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.) and Thursdays (from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) until August 28, 2015 inclusively.
One mission, two goals
This non-profit organization’s mission is twofold: it aims to break the isolation often found among seniors, while also helping young dropouts return to school come springtime. In fact, the organization actually hires youngsters to drive the three-wheeled scooters during the summer, thereby bringing the two generations closer together.
