Tribute to Mrs. Carmelle Savoie – CHUS Foundation

The CHUS Foundation pays a moving tribute to Mrs. Carmelle Savoie

More than 620 guests gathered at the gala evening following the CHUS Foundation’s annual golf tournament on June 18. While the event was marked by a tremendous outpouring of generosity in support of healthcare in the region, it also provided many touching moments.

Without Mrs. Carmelle Savoie’s knowledge, the CHUS Foundation, with the collaboration of her family and the evening’s host, France Beaudoin, had carefully prepared a surprise tribute for her. Inspired by the television program “En direct de l’univers,” this touching celebration revisited the defining moments of her life through music.

A Surprise Tribute for Carmelle Savoie

While sharing a meal with her family, the first notes of an Elvis Presley song—one of her favorite artists—rose in the room, gradually giving way to surprise. Completely unaware, she was witnessing the opening moments of a tribute carefully planned by her children and the team from En direct de l’univers. France Beaudoin then approached her to exchange a few words with the woman whose smile betrayed the emotion of the moment, before Patrick Norman performed another of her favorite songs: Quand on est en amour (When You’re in Love).

Through this tribute emerged the portrait of a woman deeply devoted to her family, generous, elegant, and a unifier. Music has always accompanied the precious memories of her family life: Elvis Presley, Patrick Norman, Paul Daraîche, and great country songs hold a special place in her heart. Paul Daraîche’s song “À ma mère” (To My Mother) reminds her of her own mother, who came from a family of 22 children and herself became the mother of 17.

A discreet pillar of the entrepreneurial adventure built alongside Mr. Eddy Savoie, Carmelle Savoie continues her involvement in the family business today, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Les Résidences Soleil and the CHUS: 25 Years of Commitment

Among the builders who have shaped its history and contributed to its growth, the Savoie Family and Les Résidences Soleil hold a very special place.
Since 2001, this commitment to the CHUS Foundation has been remarkably consistent over time. The Savoie Family received the CHUS Foundation’s Philanthropic Choice Award in 2024. From the creation of the first Chair in Respiratory Health to supporting major health projects in the region, recent years have been marked by significant actions, always guided by a deep shared commitment to providing seniors with respectful, attentive, and innovative care.

Among these major achievements, we should mention in particular the Savoie Family’s significant donation of $675,000 in 2023 for the creation of the Geriatric Emergency Department at the Hôtel-Dieu de Sherbrooke, the only one of its kind in Canada, to contribute to improving services offered to seniors.
