Knitted Christmas gifts for Sainte-Julie’s children

At Les Résidences Soleil Manoir Sainte-Julie, the summer of 2025 saw the launch of the wonderful “Laine Charitable” (charitable wool) project, an exciting knitting adventure full of kindness and originality.

It all started with a unique idea from a group of residents determined to roll up their sleeves, or rather, pick up their crochet hooks, to make a difference in the lives of disadvantaged young children in Sainte-Julie, just in time for the holiday season!

An initiative full of kindness

Through this new initiative, our knitting and crocheting residents wished to come together to bring a spark of magic to the Holiday Season, by creating beautiful, unique handmade gifts: stuffed animals, figurines, and more. For the occasion, the idea of drawing inspiration from the Japanese art of Amigurumi quickly won the hearts of our residents!

Thanks to the Renaissance Don Sainte-Julie Center, hundreds of children in the region will receive a Christmas basket containing an Amigurumi specially knitted for them!

Amigurumi, whose name is formed from the Japanese words ami (crocheted or knitted) and nuigurumi (stuffed animal), is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting animals and creatures of all kinds, which has literally conquered the world of creative hobbies, appealing to audiences of all ages!

Les Résidences Soleil‘s iconic Teddy Bear

Every week, our knitting and crocheting group meets to exchange tips, socialize, and help each other. And if you don’t know how to knit or crochet, don’t worry, they’re happy to teach you! In fact, they were already very proud of their very first Amigurumi creation: Eddy the Teddy Bear!

The Knitting therapy: bringing sunshine into people’s lives!

Knitting is definitely one of the most popular activities in our residences. Over time, our Soleil knitters have created a host of wonderful items, including scarves, hats, slippers, blankets, and little bonnets, which they generously donate to community initiatives. Through these simple gestures, they have regularly supported local causes, helped organizations, backed projects, and even added a little warmth to the daily lives of many people.
