The 2024 Corn Roast “Soleil” Party

Throughout August, Les Résidences Soleil vibrated to the rhythm of an emblematic, unifying and, above all, eagerly awaited event: the traditional corn roast! In the 15 Résidences Soleil across Quebec, this annual event brought together thousands of residents to enjoy the sunshine, fine weather and festive atmosphere of this delightful end-of-summer season!

Get involved with the corn harvest

First, in the morning, the preliminary stage and essential moment of any good Corn Roast, the famous corn shucking allowed a large number of residents to participate in the shucking of the cobs where everyone took pleasure in stripping them of their green leaves and silky hair.

Although the task may seem daunting at first, the striking enthusiasm that reigned within our Résidences Soleil literally turned the effort into a real opportunity for camaraderie and sharing memories.

Laughter and exchanges punctuated this morning of preparation, reinforcing the community spirit that is the strength of our Résidences Soleil. Together, they shared a moment of collective work, in joy and good humor, ready to savor the fruits of their efforts at noon!

But a Corn Roast isn’t just about corn! At Les Résidences Soleil, where entertainment is always a priority, each Manoir had planned its own activities to brighten up the day. And we can unequivocally say that it was mission accomplished!

The King of the Summer Fields

As the clock strikes twelve, everyone’s expectations were finally rewarded! After a morning spent shucking corn on the cob together, our residents were finally able to enjoy the fruits of their labor. The meal turned into a moment of pleasure, with everyone enjoying the sweet and sour corn.

These golden, sweet, juicy ears of corn, cooked to perfection, warmed hearts and taste buds, reminding everyone of the flavors of their childhood, those that would soon herald the arrival of autumn. Between laughter and lively discussion, this simple but warm meal reinforced the feeling of community, leaving everyone with the memory of a wonderful day shared.

The King and its Queen for the day!

What would a corn roast be without the traditional election of its “Soleil” King and Queen! This ancestral custom, as fun as it is playful, added a festive touch to this annual gathering event. This tradition happily added to the festive atmosphere of all the peelings that took place throughout our residences, crowning the pleasure of sharing a happy moment, all together!

Corn: the friend of our Soleil menus

Because nourishing and stimulating The Love of Food in our residents, it’s also about advancing in age, beauty and wisdom, and it’s with the indispensable complicity of a nutritionist that our Chefs conceive varied, tasty, healthy and nutritious menus.

Because at Les Résidences Soleil, we cultivate the pleasure of eating on a daily basis, with meals being both privileged moments of sharing and culinary discoveries. So it’s no surprise that corn – rich in nutrients, antioxidants, vitamins and fiber – is a weekly, or almost weekly, ingredient in many of our Soleil dishes: in salads, creams or chowders, in our traditional shepherd’s pie, and of course as the vegetable of the day!

The traditional corn roast, eagerly awaited every year, perfectly embodies the warm and inclusive spirit of Les Résidences Soleil, where joie de vivre and sharing are the order of the day. We’re always delighted to see our residents blossom and take an active part in these moments of collective joy and sharing.
